Bon Appetit

For those who thought that sesame chicken, stir-fry, and egg rolls constituted Chinese food....or who picture themselves ducking into a local cafe for a quick bite...

...at least you can safely say you got good value for your money. You get ALL of the chicken except for the feathers!

Those kind of chicken parts are one thing I refused to even try when I was in Taipei. Don't think anyone actually offered me a chicken head, but a friend I was with tried to persuade me to try chicken feet . . . all skin and bone! No thanks! Stinky tofu was another non-starter - just couldn't get past the smell! Sea slug (sea cucumber) was OK, as was Thousand Year Eggs.

And yes, enquiring minds want to know, did he eat it?

No, he didn't really eat it...but he did eat the chicken feet. More to impress than anything, I think.

Almost American, I don't think I can eat sea cucumber (they are really expensive so must be a delicacy) or Thousand Year Eggs.

It must be a product of "famine culture" where people just didn't have enough to eat and couldn't afford to waste anything. My friend who lived in Italy said that chicken feet were also served when she visited her landlady's family farm. America must have truly been a land of plenty for settlers not to have developed the habit.

Although no one in Tanzania would eat chicken heads or feet, and they were really poor. Maybe it's just one of those Asian things.
